Hi,
I am Jordy from the Netherlands, my Dutch function is called "Functioneel Beheerder" kinda a Business Analyst that is responsible for the functioning, support and sparring partner of the managing board / software developers for our Warehouse Management System at a 3rd party logistics company in the clothing business. My employer wants to start using Power Apps, so I decided to start with some Microsoft Learn tutorials.
But I am getting an error when trying to recreate the example:
I am following the Microsoft Learn regarding Power Apps:
When trying to copy what is being done on "Use a collection", I get the error message "This formula uses scope, which is not presently supported for evaluation"
My version of Power Apps is Dutch, so it is using ; instead of ,
Is there something I missed or are other people also getting this error? Tried googling the issue and found a couple of messages with the same error. But couldn't correlate them to my issue.
Kind Regards,
Jordy de Jong

Hi @JordydeJong
I had the same issue and starting from this page (What Is PowerApps Collection And How To Create A Collection In PowerApp (c-sharpcorner.com)), I was able to fix it.
I copied the formula from that page and modified it to the requirements from the learning module. I'm not sure if saving an publishing the app is really necessary, but I did it anyway.
I think my code was wrong because I used an "Enter" after "ColScreenNav" and before the last bracket.
Hopefully this helps.
Good luck with finishing the module! 🙂
What you are seeing is not an error! Don't view it as such.
It is the formula editor telling you that you are referring to ThisItem. Since ThisItem would apply to the current record/row of your gallery Items, how would the Formula Editor know which record to show? That is what it is saying...ThisItem is in scope with the Items and the current record...so it cannot show anything.
It is completely normal what you are seeing.
@RandyHayes
Thank you for your fast response and explanation!
Ok so I now understand that it's referring to something where it doesn't know which of the values to show. Hence the response of the the Formula Editor saying it's out of scope.
How do they in the Microsoft Learn tutorial get a list out of doing the same? When they added the ThisItem.Screenname to the Text field of the Button it showed all the different Screennames as buttons.
Do I have to order the Power Apps voodoo doll before I am able to do that? 😅
Thanks in advance!

I am not familiar with the Microsoft materials, but the message you are seeing is not an issue.
In your case you are trying to put a table into a collection that is a static table. This is really an overkill for a collection. A collection is an in-memory table that provides functions to add, update and remove records in it.
Using that for a static table is adding overhead to your app that is not needed.
It is better to put the table directly in your Items property of the Gallery, or if you need to re-use that table elsewhere, add it to a variable in your app and use that variable in your Items property.
