new look for Power Apps

We recently launched a preview of the new look for model driven app Power Apps. Details here As you try out the preview, please tell us what you think.  In the coming weeks we'll be talking more about how modern controls, using the Microsoft Fluent design system, will be coming to canvas apps, theming is also on the horizon (about time!).  We're keen to hear people's thoughts and feedback on all those topics here.

Many thanks

Ben

@gprisk-wn I checked with the team and the fix is currently rolling out and will be available in all regions by coming Monday (06/10).

Closed and re-opened my studio session and the bug is still there, as a FYI. Glad to hear it's been identified and is being fixed!

Hi,

The new Dropdown canvas control ignores the order of the items in the Items field and displays in alphabetic order only. It should display in the order of the items in the Items field.

regards

Terry

Is the option to get the search text as a property value in the pipeline, or are there workarounds?

I use a combobox where you can add the text to a textbox if the result is blank via a button. With modern controls that's not possible as Combobox1.SearchText isn't available to be used...

I'm dumb and had the wrong control selected.

Possibly many of these are mentioned but here's all the feedback I got on all the new controls:

1) There's the option "Apply theme to classic controls" which can be applied either in the modern themes tab or via via a button which shows up every time you open the app. If you switch a modern theme this option is applied without any way to skip it.  I got many older apps that I want to change the modern theme just for the modern controls and I'm unable to do so without it breaking my classic controls.

2)We should be able to change the format on datepicker controls like in the classic control which has both a "Language" and "Format" property for that.

3)Comboboxes don't work if the items property references the combobox's searchtext so in the very common scenario that it's used as a peoplepicker using the following formula it wouldn't work.

Items:

Office365Users.SearchUserV2(
    {
        isSearchTermRequired: true,
        searchTerm: Self.SearchText,
        top: 20
    }
).value

(Not giving an error and it works if you don't try to search but if you do while the correct items are retrieved you can't select them)

4)In dropdowns there should be a way remove the selection from the control itself. Right now you need to use a behavior property from another control to reset it and possibly update a variable for the default value if it's not blank.

5)Removing a selection from a combobox feels really weird. I can't really explain it but I'm often struggling especially if control is searchable and some users of my apps are unable to do it. The only easy way which really counter-intuitive for most people is to first select another item other than the select one and then immediately select the value and pressing backspace before clicking away from the control. For multiple selection comboboxes there's no issue since you can just untick the checkbox of the selected item.

6)The primary color of the modern theme should be the exact value you provide as a base. Not some lighter/darker version of it!

@benapple  -> In views, sometimes the Lookup data does not show when using the new look. when we navigate tot he form and exit the formk it then popuilates in the view. If we turn off new look, the old look shows all lookup data in the columns

A multiselect combox connected to a People field which is setup as Persons only still shows groups. This works inconsistent, as I have 2 fields both connected to different columns (however, both columns and fields setup the same) and one field only shows persons and the other field also shows groups.

UPDATE: Never mind, somehow some sitecolumns were setup as Person only but the inheriting list columns were setup as Person/Group. Strange, since the list columns were directly added from the sitecolumns trough a content types, without changing any settings afterwards. But hey, not PowerApps' problem.

When the multiselect combobox has a lot of items the top of the list gets hidden under the top of the PowerApp-screen in case the comboboxfield is not at the bottom of the visible part of the form. Therefor you cannot select the top items. When I scroll the form in such a way that the field is at the bottom of the visible part of the form then all gets shown.

I am curious if the rich text editor field will get an update to modern too? Maybe even with good picture / attachment support?

Will the modern date picker get support for timeselection? It's so weird that you can only select a date in PowerApps, when the field in SharePoint can be in datetime format. The current way to handle time with additional fields is so offputting and counter intuitive.
