Hello everybody,
would be great if you could help me! I have set up a Power Automate including a MS Forms. I need the response of one question as the shown subject line when I receive the notification that someone filled out the MS Forms via email. So I chose "dynamic content" for the subject line settings and selected the needed question and it said "the response to the selected question will be shown in the subject line", but it doesn't work. Can anyone help me? Thank you!
Solved! Go to Solution.
After the "when a new response is submitted" you still need the "get response details" action, just not inside an apply to each which can cause problems with the successful running of the flow. Then you can select the subject of the email from one of the questions in the dynamic content box. A very simple form to email flow example is shown below.
Can you provide a screenshot of your flow so we can get a better idea of how you have it configured?
Thank you! Sure:
After I chose that one, it looks like this and it also says that the flow is ready to go:
But when I test it, the subject line still looks like this:
It looks like you are using older documentation or a template as the basis for your flow. You no longer need to use an Apply to each loop to process the forms. The trigger will fire individually for each form. Other than that it looks correct as long as the responder replies to that question in the form. Add a Compose just prior to the send email action and put the question answer in that compose. That way you can see exactly what is being supplied as the subject line
Thank you ! I removed the "apply to" function and added "compose" instead and put the question answer in that compose (I would needed that function applying to two answers, but if that is not working I will find a way).
Did you mean it like this?
Then I wanted to add the "send email" action but now it's suddenly called "send an email notification V3". Does that make any difference? What should I put it in the "subject line" now? I figured to use "Outputs", but it is still not showing the subject line:
Would be great if you would have some more advice. Thank you!

You still need the Get Response Details, but you don't need the Apply to each loop because each response triggers independently. The Compose is just so you can make sure an answer is there. Its just for troubleshooting. You don't need it in the finished flow. You should use the answer in the subject line directly. The Compose will just help you see why the subject line might be empty.
Also, I wouldn't use the Send an Email notification. That action has issues in some newer tenants. Use the Office 365 outlook send an email instead.
Thank you! I tried, but when I want to choose "Response Id" in the "Get response details" I cannot choose the one you did:
When I choose one of the options I have, it creates automatically the "Apply to each" function:
And then it still doesn't show the subject line.
List of response notifications Response ID was old name for Response ID before Microsoft changed it. try re-creating the flow from blank (not from the template) and you'll find that Response ID is there and it won't wrap the get response details in an apply to each.
Is the question you are trying to use for a Subject line set to allow multiple responses? I assume it is and that is why you are getting the Apply to each loop. Its either that or check to make sure that Split On is enabled in the trigger settings. It was disabled in the original templates that were created. So then you get multiple form responses in each trigger. That's why you see the apply to each loop when you get the details. Split On should be enabled. Then the flow will run for each form submission.
There are multiple response opportunities for that question, but you can only choose one:
I enabled the "split on" function anyways, but it still doesn't show the subject line:
After enabling Split On you need to reload the flow from scratch and remove the apply to each loop around getting the response details.
