Unable to sign in to "flow" add-in in excel online

I use excel online to work on a spreadsheet from another user's onedrive. I installed the flow add-in to excel online. It had been working fine for months. now it won't let me sign in. It will pop up the sign in window, but will never sign me in. I get no error message.

Weirdly, if you open the spreadsheet in the desktop app, it does let me sign in. How can i fix this?

Hi @jcervantes

You could try the following:

1. Try another browser.

2.  Use Cognito/private browsing mode

3.  Click connections and see the Excel connector and check the status. If it says fix connection try to authenticate again.

@abm  I've tried all three. It does not sign in.

The add-in only seems to work in the desktop app.

I am working on this issue too all users even on different computers on the web version have the same issue

ok i have fixed it but its a long winded process

go here https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=microsoft%20edge%20118  and download the version below yours and extract the msi from the cab file and place it in your downloads folder

then open command prompt as admin and type the following

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Disable Edge Updates" dir=out action=block program="C:\Program Files\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\MicrosoftEdgeUpdate.exe"

then in command promt as admingo to

C:\Users\XXX\Downloads

then

msiexec /I MicrosoftEdgeEnterpriseX64.msi ALLOWDOWNGRADE=1

After this check the version number in settings>apps

this fixed it for me

Well, this isn't a fix. It's a temporary workaround at best.
Replacing Edge by a permanent older version is also a security risk.

Lets cross our fingers and hope that Microsoft will deliver a solution to this problem.

Likewise experiencing this issue. Was previously isolated to Chrome, has now spread to Edge.

Workaround: at this time the add-in still works in the browser Opera

Happening for some of our users as well. Currently the workaround is to use the 'Automate Work' option from the 'Automate' Ribbon. It does add some extra clicks though...

True, that works, but apart from the Extra click it also doesn't identify if the flow is meant for the selected sheet. We use multiple sheets in a workbook.

Having this experience as well. It started in Chrome maybe over a month ago but was working in Edge at the time, and now it does not in either. Our licences are for web-only so we cannot use any Excel (for a selected line) flows at this time. Unsure if or when Microsoft is implementing a fix, which is very frustrating—hopefully soon!!

Hi there,

The Microsoft team was able to help me with this issue. This might work on your end, even though it is not yet the real fix.
1. copy this on your browser either edge or chrome (mine is chrome): chrome://flags/

2. Look for Experimentalthird-party storage partitioning and click Disabled

3. Then click Relaunch
4. Go back to your excel online
5. Open add in and add Microsoft Power Automate Flow
6. Click Data then Sign -in

🙂

Thank you kali2616,

I can confirm that this works in Chrome.

I even did not have to add-in Flow again.
And Flow was automatically logged in already.
So the first 3 steps sufficed.

1. copy this on your browser either edge or chrome (mine is chrome): chrome://flags/

2. Look for Experimentalthird-party storage partitioning and click Disabled

3. Then click Relaunch

@kali2616 @MichaelVreuls This works. Seems to be a secure fix as well.

Thank you.

Thank you for this @kali2616!!! It worked for me as well.

I'm wondering if this feature of Chrome is to blame for the issue? Edge is a Chromium browser as well so it would make sense. Apparently, other applications are experiencing problems related to this "Experimental third-party storage partitioning" as well.

It works!! Thanks a lot

Works but step 2 is now only called 'third party storage partitioning' (current Feb 6th 2024)

I've been following all of the above advice. Still seem to be struggling to login on Excel online.

Are there any other variables which perhaps could be causing this?

I've raised an issue with my comapnies IT department in hope they can help. Might it have something to do with the companies systems?
