Highlight Gallery Selected Item If Statement

Hello,

I currently have the TemplateFill property of my home screen gallery set to If(ThisItem.IsSelected,LightBlue,White) and it is working as expected. As the user clicks from item to item in the gallery, the row is highlighted.

When the user submits a new request form they are automatically redirected back to the home screen gallery and a notification appears across the top that their item was successfully submitted. There is a bit of a visual disconnect as the item they just submitted is not highlighted, some other item is. Is there a way I can adjust my If formula to accommodate both of these needs?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Teresa

Hi @tagustin2020  ,

You need a unique field in your form ,  else the formula i gave wouldn't work.

You can create a field named RequestID and it to the form  , set it's datacard's Default to this  - Last(yourSPListname.RequestID) + 1 . This would create unique numbers for each record. You can hide the field in the form.

And in the gallery , under TemplateFill property , use this - If(ThisItem.RequestID = Last(yourSPListname.RequestID, RGBA(1,1,1,1) , If(ThisItem.IsSelected,LightBlue,White)).

Replace RGBA(1,1,1,1) with the colour you need.

I understand this might be a bit complicated , hence i would suggest you to consider @RandyHayes  or @v-xida-msft solutions , as they are easier than my solution.

Thank you.

Hello Gautham,

Thank you for the reply. I have tried the other approaches, but so far they aren't working so I tried yours. I appreciate the clarification. I added a number column to my SharePoint list and entered the following formula into the data card's Default property: Last('Tool Design Support Requests'.'Request ID') +1. I am getting the error "Invalid argument type. Expecting one of the following: Number, Text, Boolean". I realize my formula is slightly different than yours, but when I type a dot after the name of my SharePoint List, it has apostrophes around the column title. I tried entering it without apostrophes, but that didn't work either. Any ideas on how to address the error?

Are you sure that the RequestID field is a integer/number type. Also , it's best to avoid spaces while naming fields , you can rename or remove and try again.

Apologies for sneaking in but wanted to suggest something that has worked for me before, setting a default and doing a Reset isn't good enough, at least some times.

What has always worked for me is that, say in your case, when you submit your form, set the ID of the new record in a variable. Set another variable first to the First(DataSource) record and then to the new ID and then perform a Reset(Gallery) call, all on the same button that brings you back to the gallery.

Let me know if this isn't clear enough. I can provide details if needed.

Also, not sure if this has been suggested before (I will read through the chat after posting this message), but if all you want is the fill of the row to be a specific color, have you tried the following approach:

1. On the OnSelect of the gallery, set the current record to a variable, Set(currentSelected, ThisItem)

2. Change the TemplateFill property to If(ThisItem.ID = currentSelected.ID,LightBlue,White)

3. Now when you submit the form, get the LastSubmit records's ID and set it to the same variable

This will have the new row with the fill color you want.

Let me know if either of these work.

Hello Gautham,

I just double-checked the column settings. The column is a number type and the internal column name is RequestID with no spaces. I tried the formula both with a space and no space in the Display name. Power Apps didn't pick it up with no space in the display name. It was able to suggestion something in intellisense when I added a space to the display name, but it didn't work and I was unable to even submit the form. Not sure why. All of the fields became read-only.

Hello Hardit,

Thank you for the suggestion. I already had my current record set to a variable called varRecord so I stuck with that naming convention. My TemplateFill If statement was slightly different (see below) so I changed it to your syntax. I'm not sure how to get the LastSubmit record ID and set it to the same variable. Can you explain that in further detail?

OnSelect property of gallery nav icon:

Set(varRecord,ThisItem);Navigate('Edit Request Screen',Transition.None)

The Item property of the form on the Edit Request Screen is set to varRecord.

TemplateFill property:

If(ThisItem.IsSelected,LightBlue,White)

In regards to your other suggestion, I think I have the first sentence done with my varRecord variable, but I’m afraid I’m too new to PowerApps to understand what you mean by the second sentence in the sense that I am not sure where I would enter all of these items.  If you could provide more detail it would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Hi @tagustin2020 ,

So here is a working demo:

ResetGallery.gif

If this is what you are looking for, here is what I have:

  1. Gallery's OnSelect: Set(currentRecord, ThisItem);
  2. Gallery's TemplateFill: If(ThisItem.Account = currentRecord.Account,LightBlue,White) (Account is my ID)
  3. + icon's OnSelect: NewForm(EditForm1) ; Navigate(Screen6, ScreenTransition.Fade)
  4. Form submission icon OnSelect: SubmitForm(EditForm1); Set(currentRecord, LookUp(Accounts, Account = EditForm1.LastSubmit.Account)); Navigate(Screen5,ScreenTransition.Fade)

Hopefully I haven't misunderstood your use case. I can attach another video if needed to prove that it works even if the account/record I create is not the 1st record in the gallery.

So here is another video just to show that if the new record isn't the 1st in the gallery, it still behaves the way I think you want it to.

Hi Hardit,

Thanks so much! This looks exactly like what I am trying to achieve in my app. I can’t believe you even made a little video to help me out. Talk about going the extra mile! I’ll give it a try tomorrow morning and will let you know how I do.

Have a nice evening,

Teresa
